Olivia was all too willing to go up the mast to retrieve
the loose end of the flag halyard. Using her life
jacket as a bosun's chair, she was winched up the mast .
She loved every minute of it. "Can I do it again?"
Next time we lose a halyard..... sure. I start
swaying just looking at this picture.
Yikes. I've fallen a few too many times to go for that. So if one is wearing a life jacket like a diaper, if you fall in the water you butt gets saved, but your head is underwater?
ReplyDeleteWell, good for Olivia. What I say. Not sure I'd say the same thing for the mind what let her go in a life jacket, or the hands that cranked her up. I've been up my stick a few times and cranked crew up, too. I'd never do either without a bosun's chair. No. I wouldn't. I'd beg, borrow, buy or steal a chair first. Yep, I would. I'm with Panda!
ReplyDeleteBut, then I don't mess with flag halyards, either...
ReplyDeletePoint taken, but Dad's martini burgee had to fly. And at 65 pounds at the time, there was a somewhat low risk factor with my daughter. You all know I'd never, ever put my girls in danger.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Baydog, I know that. I was just kidding. I know you knew that....
ReplyDeleteIt's always logical & proper to use weight scales to 'volunteer' mast work, too! Still, I'd never go up my mast in something other than a bosun's chair!
