This evening, the last public sporting event will have taken place in
the venerable Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Much has been
made of the many historic moments associated with this beloved
sporting arena, not the least of which would be the 1981 NFC
championship game between the San Francisco Forty-Niners
and the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, in the waning moments,
Joe Montana looked and looked, then moved to his right and
basically lofted a pass into the end zone, right into the outstretched
arms of Dwight Clark, who jumped slightly, and caught the
ball for the winning touchdown, thus sending the 49ers to the
Super Bowl. This will forever be known in the annals of
NFL history as 'The Catch'. The Catch my ass.
