On the Mend

A seal in West Creek, NJ tonight.  And not a frickin eskimo in sight.

    1. Sadly, Geo, there are no more Penguins on the Barnegat Bay.

    2. No doubt another sad victim of global warming, but at least the bay's warmer when we fall off the boats now. Pretty soon NJ will be the new FLA.

  2. And where there are seals there will be sharks.

  3. Baydog,

The term "Eskimo" is so non P.C. The race of people that inhabit the north most regions of the North American continent are the Inupiat people. Not Eskimos

That being said, I am trying to figure out what to make out from that seal. I am thinking a short length jacket. Your thoughts...

Levity people, its just levity.. Love the seal, I would never make a jacket out of the seal but I have to admit, it would make a cool blanket. Ha!, I am totally kidding. Listen, don't diss the Eskimos, er, ah Inupiats.

Lets get back to the picture of the Penguins
I don,t thing Eskimos eat penguins,...I mean Inupiats! It is all so confusing.

    1. Don't ever think you need to be PC with me, you frickin limey mick! Eskimos is Eskimos, them blubber-eatin, canoe-paddlin, shotgun-shootin native Alaskan beings.

  4. Eskimo is the only term that includes both Yupik and Inuit. (The Inupiat are a subgroup of the Inuit.) The Inuit don't like being called Eskimos for sure but if you want to refer to all the Native Americans of Alaska, Greenland, Canada and Siberia then Eskimo is really the correct word.

Just as if you want a word to mean "the people who migrate to the Jersey Shore every summer" the correct term is a Snooki.

  5. Naw, the correct term is "shoeby"...

    1. Maybe in Brigantine, but the term I'm most familiar with is benny.

    2. I was born a poor benny, I did not live on the Jersey shore. I had to endure the hateful stereotype of being a tourist rather than a local. I absorbed these insults and and barbs that where directed at me, but I survived. I survived because I had the strength and fortitude to rise against the prejudice that the Jersey Shore locals pressed upon me by calling me "of all things" a benny.

Baydog, I know "benny" was not your creation, nor your intent, but the term "benny" is the dumbest insulting term that I have ever heard, because it is totally not insulting. Saying "Hey dude your a tourist" can equate to saying "Hey dude your on vacation, and that pisses me off"

Again, I know you are not championing the "benny" moniker but you got to admit it was a stupid label.

Also, I have some mick in me 1/8 otherwise I am entirely German/Alsace. That being said, god do I love good political incorrectness.

Good night you magnificent German bastard.

      Always.....

    3. Actually Doug, as far back as I can remember, Bennies have been ridiculed and their season-end departures have been counted down since Memorial Day weekend. Yes, it may be dumb to curse the hordes of vacationers that actually bring revenue to areas of the shore, that for the other nine months of the year rely on local patronage almost exclusively. But unless you've grown up down there, you may never fully understand the disdain the locals feel.
