Lost weekend

While most of my friends and acquaintances
are lamenting about going back to work Tuesday,
my co-workers and I have been at it the whole
weekend.  After Tuesday morning's commencement,
a busy lunch, and one more busy dinner service,
things will be back to normal.  Grads will say their
farewells to each other, knowing full well they will try
like hell to attend every reunion for the rest of their
lives from here on in.  The next one is less than a
year away. I must admit, it's a pretty cool thing
being around such a rich tradition as this. I just wish
they didn't hold it on Memorial Day Weekend.
It doesn't always fall that way, luckily.
I'm gonna have a beer now, or three,
and then I'm going to bed.

  1. Beer -vs- bed: nightly antagonists. Archetypal.

  3. One of my favorite Bourdain bits was when he went back to his old NY restaurant and worked a double shift as a line cook.

It left him an incoherent puddle of goo.

  4. I do love the way he writes. We actually had a couple of chef-instructors in common who we had a good laugh about!

  5. Come to think of it, I'm feeling that incoherent puddle of goo coming on. He would definitely fit right in with some of our back and forth babble, straying way off the beaten path, when it's agreeably the most enjoyable.
