I say disabled because the word 'handicapped' is like saying 'Oriental'
these days. This was the MRYC Labor Day Herring Island Handicap
start, just off the end of the Metedeconk River Yacht Club's main
dock. JW was very aggressive on this line, regardless of how much
extra weight Wassail was carrying. How many one design classes
can you spot in this photo? And which direction was the
photographer facing? And what kegged beverage kept the juniors
happy at the club during the cookout after that race?
1. E
ReplyDelete2. 6
3. Coca Cola
It does look like six, Tillerman, but which classes do those boats represent?
DeleteAnd if you 'Google Earth' the coordinates under the blog title, you'll know which direction the photographer was facing.
DeleteWassail! wassail! all over the town,
ReplyDeleteOur toast it is white and our ale it is brown
I do not know the answers to questions 1 & 2 but question 3 does bring up a possible discussion. I say possible because I am assuming the "junior beverage" was either Root Beer or Birch Beer (the only two kegged junior beverages) I know of. I like both but prefer Birch Beer when I can get it.
ReplyDeleteAlas, we are talking New Jersey and there is no better road side’s stop (possibly in the world) than a Stewart's Root Beer stand on a gravel lot off of some minor highway. A foot long hot dog and some crinkle cut fries, takes me way back. Back then my mode of transportation was a Schwinn 10 speed bicycle powered by a pre-adolescent hunger for really good junk food. My friends and I would make that journey to Stewart’s riding the berm of a busy road many times during the course of a summer. We would belly up to the bar and slake our thirst on a Stewart’s root beer float. Oh those where the days my friends and we probably thought they would never end…..but I digress.
My bet it was a keg of root beer, hopefully it was world renowned, Stewart's Root beer.
Pennsylvania Dutch brand birch beer it was.
DeleteAnd Stewart's does rule.
.........you said 'slake'
DeleteAh, back when there was still some chance of finding some 'root' in root beer.
DeleteAnd yes, I know that there is no 'me' in root beer.
Ahh yes, the old PDBB, good stuff!
ReplyDeleteI see a Penguin, a couple Sunfish, some Lightnings and an MC scow, so four different classes.
ReplyDeleteGeorge, the dark blue-hulled boat I believe is a Comet, and the sail just in front is probably a Blue Jay. And we're facing North, more or less.
DeleteSo my answer of "6" was correct? And E is more or less N too.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tillerman, 6 is correct I think. I suppose I should have said name the classes instead of how many can you name...
DeleteAccording to Tillerwoman one of my most endearing features is how I always take every question literally.
