Did Someone say Pirate?

Me 5th birthday paaaaarrrrrty.  My cake was even shaped like
a ship!  No Build-a-Bear, Chuckie Cheese, or Laser Tag in 1966,
just good old-fashioned, imaginative fun.  Here, we were blowing
our ships over the bounding main of the kiddie pool.  I can't quite
remember what the other activities were that day, but just
dressing like a pirate was probably good enough.  Thanks Mom!

  1. Weren't moms great back then? My birthday was Halloween, and my only-slightly-younger brother's birthday was one day off April Fools, so we had lots of fun-themed birthdays. Our mom got especially creative with cakes -- I got black cats and jack-o'lanterns, while my brother got clowns, Easter bunnies, and other fun things. (Mom still does a great jack-o'lantern: two chocolate Bundt cakes, the one on the bottom inverted, both covered with orange frosting, and surprise goodies hidden in the middle. She makes one for me about every other year, even though I'm not exactly a kid anymore.)

  2. Yeah, but you're still younger than I am :) Never a store-bought cake. Last week my mom helped bedazzle shirts and picture frames with my girls while we were away. She once again has the time to do that kind of stuff. Priceless.

  3. Carol Anne was born on Halloween????? I could say that, that explains a lot!
    But I won't because I bet she's heard that a lot and I don't want to sound so ..... unoriginal ......

  4. We're you born on September 17th? If so, that's a pretty awesome coincidence me hearty, as I was. I just celebrated my 3rd (score). A pirate party with boats in the kiddie pool sounds like great fun.

  5. Happy belated birthday, PB! No, the 17th was when I remembered about the pirate theme, being that it's pirate week or something?

  6. Don't you love it how Baydog's photo is always changing? Quite the chameleon! Reflective of his creativity river-- never stops flowing. K

  7. Oh, yeah, never EVER a store-bought cake. My mom would get instructions in homemaking magazines how to transform two ordinary round cakes into a black cat, or how to make a clown out of a sheet cake.

Doc, if you believe in astrology, I'm a very dangerous person. Not only was I born on Halloween, my sun, moon, and ascendant are all Scorpio, as are about half my planets. My 13th and 39th birthdays were both blue moons. My dad's a magician -- Order of Merlin, no less -- and I sail a boat named Black Magic. For what it's worth, I even have red hair (aside from the roots, which are getting somewhat long at the moment).
