Sailboat Week, May 14, 1973

A hotly contested  "Who's Who" fleet of Penguins raced for
the Region II honors on Staten Island.

All the obvious skippers were there.

I love the classifieds.  This one is definitely for Tillerman.
The strictest One Design racing in the world.
Huzzah!

And a Harken Bullet Block for a mere $2.75?
That design is unchanged to this day, and rightly so.

  1. Man, that is a who's who indeed. I've even met some of the them. It's so exciting to see all those names together I might just have to blog about it.

Did that funny little boat that Norvan Marine were selling ever catch on?

  2. Not the 14 footer. But the version that was two inches shorter did.

  3. When that block was $2.75, a draft beer in RI was $0.35.

  4. Is my reach into my memory exceeding my grasp? Is that Peter Commette photographed on the Laser? (The 13'10" Laser)?

  5. Don't think so Doc. Peter has a narrower face and usually wore a headband of some sort.

  6. Maybe, but there are no goalposts in the background! It definitely isn't Gardner Cox.

  7. Yeah, it does look like your grandson more than Jim! That's uncanny! Kx
