Groundhog Day has always struck me as one of the few things on this planet that are even more illogical than the English language. If it's nice enough weather that the groundhog sees his shadow, then there's six weeks more of winter, but if it's bad weather, spring is right around the corner?

The whole groundhog day thing has been subjected to excruciating analysis and interpretation. Its scientific and socioeconomic significance has been debated for decades. But the one lingering question that has always puzzled me is this:
