Scenes from the Swamps of Jersey

A Giants game is always an event, whether pre or regular-season.
And their faithful come prepared with big appetites and high hopes.
Saturday was no exception.  It's always fun to grab a beer and
walk around the parking lot and check out the fans tailgating.

This kid went the extra mile with the shoulder pads.

He just couldn't miss the golf today.

And now, your starting quarterback, number 69..................69?

Too much beer pong and he won't remember
a single play of the game.  He may not care.
And how old is he anyway?  And the kid to
his left while we're at it?

VIP Guest.  Probably knows the Rooneys but wanted
to mingle with the little people.  He's got a
"Terrible Towel" for each hand.  There are a ton of
Steeler fans in New Jersey.  And unfortunately they
were waving their towels during a
good portion of the game.

New Jersey's only and as of yet, unopened indoor skiing slope.
Xanadu, a super-modern, full-blown mega mall was scheduled
to open this year.  I'm not sure if they've got one tenant yet.
And it's a mega-eyesore.

My three reasons for being.

Goosebumps.

We didn't play too well today, but that's life.
Actually, it's just a game.

  1. I noticed that Steelers fan was wearing Tillerman's favorite number. Of course, his favorite wearer of that number probably wouldn't be allowed to wear it in the open.

  2. In 1969 Man landed on the Moon, the NY Jets won the Super Bowl, and the New York Mets won the World Series. It's all been downhill from there.

...but glad you had a good time.

  3. How long of a drive is it to the stadium? You're not an Eagles fan?

  4. An hour, best case as opposed to 45 minutes to Stinkin' Financial Field. And no, bite your tongue.

Pandabonium, the Giants have won three Super Bowls since 69. We'll be okay!

  5. Hey Baydog, have you discovered the "family" lager? Check your email for the link. Quite a surprise!

  6. Professional football may well have started in the Mid-West. Still, football languished in relative obscurity for years and would probably remain there today had it not been perfected by an enterprising and dedicated San Francisco ballplayers and then brought to the world's attention by a passionate San Francisco writer.

  7. Professional football actually got its start in Southwestern Pennsylvania, in 1892, an area that has produced some of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Joe Namath, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Johnny Unitas, and George Blanda are a few that come to mind.

The first ever organized college football game was played between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869, where Rutgers won, 6-4. As reported, the game was “replete with surprise, strategy, prodigies of determination, and physical prowess”.

I imagine Rutgers would kick the crap out of Princeton these days. But it's only a game.

  8. Everyone used to kick the crap out of Princeton. Late in the game, they'd start subbing guys from the band.

You didn't mention that one of the coaches at that first game in 1892 was Joe Paterno.
