Tactician

"They're kinda close-hauled to be trying to
set that spinnaker, no?"  That may have been
the last instance in which I wore a life jacket.
And take a look at that thing!

  1. Nothing wrong when wearing a PFD. The older you get, the more you find yourself thinking of ways to simplify crew efforts to rescue your no-account ass without risking their more valuable skins. Sometimes I just wear one for warmth when I would otherwise reach for a sweatshirt.

  2. Baydog,

Re the header photo: Neat pic of the Penguin. I like the dolly. What is the boat that the whole gang has gathered in the cockpit? Is it a scow?

  3. Rod: you beat me to the same questions re: the header pix. I'm guessing that the boat the boyz are standing in is a Perrine-built Sneakbox; maybe the 12 footer that the LBI clubs raced as singlehanders instead of Moths but it might be the larger (maybe 15 feet?) of the "yacht club" style Sneakboxes that were common at those clubs in the 50s and 60s.

I'm guessing that the Penguin, owning to Baydog's boyhood locale, was built by David Beaton but does Baydog remember the sail number of that Penguin?
