You know me: I'm always the one to ask and always the one to tell.... And I can tell you that turkey day is more than a month away, and I can ask you if your readers are going to see and hear again from you in the interval?
I have missed this phenomenon - What does turkey day have to do with dancing in a lesbian bar? Sounds interesting. Is this what has been happening in Greenwich the past few years I have been away? Kx
Kx - We have been missing you dearly on Turkey Day! And yes, a musical ritual has developed in the late evening hours of Our Favorite Holiday when we spin some wax (that is, play LPs on a turntable). Oh, and we like to turn up the volume too. The song and subject have nothing to do with that ritual, but we always feature some brilliant and beloved Jonathan Richman tracks. On second thought, the song's point about going to a place where people are really enjoying themselves pertains after all! When can we expect you?? K
K - Embarassingly I have to admit that I had never heard of Jonathan Richman before this lovely ditty. H usually plays Alice's Restaurant on the drive to your place, so I thought that was the quintessential Turkey Day song. I would love to be there with you guys this year, but unfortuntely I can't due to my thesis viva being a week later. So, will there be an SNL president's reunion this Thanksgiving? See this link for inspiration:
Alice's Restaurant is indeed the classic Turkey Day song, which we often play around mid-day. As for Jonathan Richman (and the Modern Lovers), I'm sure you have heard the track "Roadrunner", which they recorded in the early 1970s. I have several of the later JR &TML albums, but I would have to say that my favorite is Rockin and Romance (1985). If you can get your hands on that one, you'll love every track-- pure gold! Thanks for the presidential clip; I'm sure it will inspire H and D to perform!! K
New Jersey, Sailing, Food, Family, and anything I think is interesting at the time make up the contents of this blog. Bear with me, I'm still learning.
